Celebrity parade raises $60,000

BRENT Staker, David Wirrpanda and Miss Universe Australia Laura Dundovic were among guest models at the Perth Fashion Festival's Telethon celebrity parade.

About $60,000 was raised for Telethon - half of which came from business baron Pankaj Oswal's generous bid for the dress his wife Radhika modelled.

MCs Basil Zempilas and Tina Altieri welcomed the crowd, which included Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffiti, culture and arts leaders, Perth Fashion Festival director Tony Sage and Damian Wollnough of Vogue. Ambassador Annmarie Carpenter was otherwise engaged at Labor's election headquarters.

Whether it was the election or not, the atmosphere was more low-key than previous festival events, with dresses and heels more conservative.

Local Amy Winehouse tribute act Amy Housewine kicked off the night's entertainment. The comedienne with a voice to boot made a spectacle of herself up and down the catwalk, sipping from A-listers' glasses while stumbling about.

Celeb model Rachel Grasso began the official parade in a Lisa Ho swimsuit, accessorised with an oversized hat and shades.

Among the guest models were Adrian Barich of Channel 7, AFL players Brent Staker and David Wirrpanda, socialite Bree Maddox, Miss Universe Australia Laura Dundovic, Zoe Naylor of Gladiators fame and billionairess Radhika Oswal.

The celebs wore clothes from Carillon City, Claremont Arcade, The Mezz, The Park Centre and The Colonnade. As each celeb stepped out, images of themselves as children were projected on long pieces of sheer white fabric bordering the stage, in keeping with the theme of supporting the youth of WA.

Highlights included Patti Chong in a gorgeous black chiffon overlay evening gown by George from More!, bravely shuffling down the runway and Zoe Naylor, post-strut being swept off her feet and carried off stage by Gladiator Hunter.
